Way2GoMaryland established a partnership with higher education advocacy group, First Generation College Bound, INC (FGCB) August of 2011. FGCB services low -and moderate- income families in preparing for higher education.
The Laurel, Maryland organization provides a college access program offered to grades 10 - 12- at five sites in Prince George’s County, Maryland: Central and Fairmont Heights High Schools in Capitol Heights, Laurel High School in Laurel, Parkdale High School in Riverdale and Potomac High School in Oxon Hill.
Partnering with FGCB, Way2GoMaryland has established a pre-college acess program with three Prince George’s County Middle Schools that feed into FGCB high school sites: Dwight D. Eisenhower in Laurel, William Wirt in Riverdale, and Benjamin Stoddert in Temple Hills. The partnership allows 30 premier 8th grade students in each middle school to participate in a year-long college preparation program inclusive of career development resources via Career Puppy access, motivational guest speakers, and a guaranteed spot in the FGCB College Access program which will monitor and support the student’s college-bound track from high school to college completion.
Participants in the FGCB College Access program receive assistance with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA) and their college entry application.
FGCB also offers community tutorial support and educational resources for students and parents by way of their Homework Club currently servicing Kimberly Gardens community in Laurel, MD and Alden Berkley Townhomes in College Park, MD. For more information on FGCB please visit http://www.fgcb.org/.
